Sedimentation Study of Biphasic Calcium Phosphate Particles

چکیده
Injectable calcium phosphate (CaP) biomaterial is considered as an injectable bone substitute (IBS). It was developed to minimize invasive surgery in various applications in orthopedic and dental surgery. The IBS considered of a polymer solution mixed with biphasic calcium phosphate (BCP) ceramic particles. Two particle sizes of BCP (40-80 and 80-200μm) were used and the weight ratio was 40%. This study investigated the influence of polymer solution on the BCP particles stability. Effects of particles size and limiting viscosity of polymer on the sedimentation were studied. The polymer concentration and particles size can be adapted to provide the best stability and storage of IBS.

The stability mechanisms of an injectable calcium phosphate ceramic suspension.
Calcium phosphate ceramics are widely used as bone substitutes in dentistry and orthopedic applications. For minimally invasive surgery an injectable calcium phosphate ceramic suspension (ICPCS) was developed. It consists in a biopolymer (hydroxypropylmethylcellulose: HPMC) as matrix and bioactive calcium phosphate ceramics (biphasic calcium phosphate: BCP) as fillers. The stability of the susp...

Several studies have shown that macro micro porous bioceramics ectopically implanted promote bone tissue formation. This study aims at investigating the inflammatory response towards biphasic calcium phosphate (BCP) ceramic micro particles. BCP composed of hydroxyapatite (HA) and beta-tricalcium phosphate, HA/beta -TCP ratio of 50/50, were prepared by sintering at 1200 degrees C for 5 h. After ...
متن کاملEffect of strontium-substituted biphasic calcium phosphate on inflammatory mediators production by human monocytes.
Calcium phosphate materials are widely used as bone substitutes because of their properties close to those of the mineral phase of bones. Nevertheless, after several months, calcium phosphate-based materials release particles that may be phagocytosed by monocytes, leading to an inflammatory reaction. Strontium is well known to counteract the osteoporosis process, but little is known about its e...

Nanocrystalline hydroxyapatite was precipitated from calcium hydroxide and phosphoric acid. Effects of precipitation temperature and different calcium to phosphate ratios (Ca/P) on the obtained powders were investigated. Characteriza-tion of the powders was performed using XRD and FTIR spectra, scanning electron microscopy, and transmission electron microscopy. Increase in precipitation t...
متن کاملRegulatory inhibition of biological tissue mineralization by calcium phosphate through post-nucleation shielding by fetuin-A.
In vertebrates, insufficient availability of calcium and inorganic phosphate ions in extracellular fluids leads to loss of bone density and neuronal hyper-excitability. To counteract this problem, calcium ions are usually present at high concentrations throughout bodily fluids-at concentrations exceeding the saturation point. This condition leads to the opposite situation where unwanted mineral...
